Biography
Wisnu Ajitama was born in Kediri, East Java. He completed his Master’s degree at Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Yogyakarta in 2019. Currently based in Yogyakarta, he’s actively creating works of art nature, land and environmental art. Since 2010, Wisnu has been actively involved in fine arts by exploring works of painting, crafts, scenography and studying the world of theater and poetry with the art community in Yogyakarta. Until in 2013 he founded Pandai Ruang studio to accommodate ideas as well as experimentation in the world of contemporary art.
Wisnu’s creative exploration is more explorative both through the deconstruction of the medium and the actual themes. Thematic and contextual ideas related to environmental, humanitarian, cultural, social crisis and natural local identity issues. Through the uniqueness of natural material with a contemporary approach and local wisdom. Wisnu was able to steal the attention of fine arts activists in 2017. The solo exhibition of Land Art in the Pinus Pengger Forest, Bantul, Yogyakarta titled “Run Think Racket”. Utilization of natural material in plants produces integral and poetic visual interpretation.
Wisnu placed the artworks in hidden natural spaces. His inspiration was obtained from a hobby that added to the aesthetic experience, like climbing mountains, rivers, exploring caves, and wading through the jungle. Twigs, grass, stone, is a natural material which is the main medium of his artwork. In addition, local philosophy and collaboration with the surrounding community when the process of creating works. Works that use nature as a canvas not only at Mount Pengger (Dlingo, Bantul) but also at Watupayung, Gunungkidul (2018); and Kaliopak, Sleman (2019).
In 2018, Wisnu participated in the Geumgang Nature Art Biennale and Nature Art Cube in South Korea. In the same year, he was held a solo exhibition at Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta entitled “Environmental Art-LENG”. In 2019, he created an artwork at the UPO Nature Art Festival in Changnyeong, Busan, South Korea. He also participated in Biennale Equator Yogyakarta in the Yogyakarta Cultural Park and take part in the 2019 Global Nomadic Art Project Italy from St Bernardo, Venice and Rome.
